LNRSI Multi-Timeframe Indicator¶
Probability Engine
Not just lines on a chart - this is a system that filters out noise and highlights when momentum, trend, and relative strength ALL align.
Overview¶
The LNRSI (Laguerre Normalized Relative Strength Indicator) combines four distinct "layers of truth" for every candle:
The Four Layers¶
| Layer | Name | What It Measures | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Relative Strength | Asset / Benchmark Ratio | Find stocks that refuse to drop when market dips |
| 2 | Stochastic Normalization | Where in the day's range? (0-100) | Know if you're at "cheap" or "expensive" end |
| 3 | Fractals Energy | Market "choppiness" | Slow down in chop, speed up in trends |
| 4 | Laguerre Filter | Volatility-adjusted smoothing | No-lag signal line for clean crossovers |

We don't just look at price - we look at the Ratio of Asset vs Benchmark (SPY):
Why This Matters¶
| Scenario | SPY | Your Stock | Traditional View | RS View |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Market dip | -1% | -0.1% | "Stock is down" | "Stock is STRONG" |
| Market rally | +2% | +1% | "Stock is up" | "Stock is WEAK" |
Key Insight: We want to buy stocks that refuse to go down when the market dips.
Layer 2: Stochastic Normalization (The "Context")¶
We map the Ratio to a 0-100 scale based on the Lookback period:
The "78 Bar" Rule (Day Trading)¶
| Timeframe | Bars | Equals |
|---|---|---|
| 5 minute | 78 | One full trading day (6.5 hours) |
| 15 minute | 26 | One full trading day |
| 1 hour | 7 | One full trading day |
Why 78? It tells you if you're at the "cheap" or "expensive" end of today's relative performance, not last week's.
Layer 3: Fractals Energy (The "Market State")¶
This measures the "efficiency" or "choppiness" of the ratio movement:
Adaptive Behavior¶
| Market State | Fractals Energy | Indicator Response |
|---|---|---|
| Trending | High (smooth moves) | Speeds up - catch the move early |
| Chopping | Low (jagged moves) | Slows down - avoid fake-outs |
This is the secret sauce that prevents whipsaws in choppy markets.
Layer 4: Laguerre Filter (The "Trigger")¶
The Laguerre filter provides zero-lag smoothing of the normalized RS:
L0 := alpha * NormRS + (1 - alpha) * nz(L0[1])
L1 := -(1 - alpha) * L0 + nz(L0[1]) + (1 - alpha) * nz(L1[1])
L2 := -(1 - alpha) * L1 + nz(L1[1]) + (1 - alpha) * nz(L2[1])
L3 := -(1 - alpha) * L2 + nz(L2[1]) + (1 - alpha) * nz(L3[1])
Signal = (L0 + 2*L1 + 2*L2 + L3) / 6
Why Laguerre?¶
| Filter Type | Lag | Smoothness | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| SMA | High | High | Long-term trends |
| EMA | Medium | Medium | General use |
| Laguerre | Low | High | Fast signals + smooth line |
Layer 5: Multi-Timeframe Confluence (The "Probability Multiplier")¶
We check the same math on multiple timeframes:
| Signal Type | Win Rate | Risk/Reward |
|---|---|---|
| 5m breakout alone | ~50% (coin flip) | Unpredictable |
| 5m + 15m aligned | ~60% | Better |
| 5m + 15m + 1H + Daily aligned | ~70%+ | High probability |
Key Insight: A 5-minute breakout where the 15m, 1H, and Daily are ALREADY bullish is a freight train.
The Zones¶
| Zone | Value Range | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Leadership | > 0.8 | Top 20% relative strength |
| Neutral | 0.2 - 0.8 | Average performer |
| Laggard | < 0.2 | Bottom 20% relative strength |
Zone Breach Signals¶
| Signal | Entry Type | Win Rate | Reward |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cross above 0.2 | Turnaround Play | Lower | Higher |
| Cross above 0.8 | Momentum Breakout | Higher | Lower |
Trading Strategy¶
Entry Checklist (Long/Calls)¶
- 3+ timeframes show BULL (ideally all 4)
- Background is GREEN (total confluence)
- Zone breach: Laguerre crosses above 0.2 OR above 0.8
- Candle closed (never enter mid-candle)
- Blue Line > Orange Signal Line
Position¶
| Asset | Specification |
|---|---|
| Type | ITM or ATM Calls |
| Expiration | 7-14 DTE (reduce theta burn) |
| Size | Based on stop distance |
Stop Loss¶
| Stop Type | Trigger | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Hard Stop | Blue Line < Orange Line | Exit immediately |
| Catastrophic | Background turns RED | Exit immediately |
Profit Taking¶
| Level | Trigger | Action |
|---|---|---|
| TP1 | Blue Line hits 1.0 or flattens | Sell 50% |
| TP2 | Blue Line < Orange Line | Sell remaining |
Expert Tips¶
1. Avoid the Morning Fake-out¶
Skip First 15 Minutes
The RS calculation needs data to stabilize. Trade signals after 9:45 AM ET.
2. Watch for Divergence¶
| Price | LNRSI | Signal |
|---|---|---|
| Higher High | Higher High | ✅ Valid - momentum confirmed |
| Higher High | Lower High | ❌ DIVERGENCE - do NOT buy |
Divergence means the stock is losing power relative to SPY even though price is up. This is a bull trap.
3. The Benchmark Matters¶
| Your Focus | Benchmark |
|---|---|
| General stocks | SPY |
| Tech stocks | QQQ |
| Small caps | IWM |
| Sector plays | Sector ETF (XLF, XLE, etc.) |
